Objection tips - please adapt, use and share, share, share

Here are some handy tips on how to Say No to Sainsbury’s in an Objection to be considered by Planning. You only need 1 or 2 good points. You should write them in your own words & include your own feelings about it.

• The environmental and social impacts of having up to seven lorry deliveries a day as well as additional cars to the proposed new store would be severe given the existing congestion and parking problems.

• The extra traffic will result in a significant number of vehicle movements in and out of the site across a well-used pedestrian route linking Saltaire with the nearby residential streets. This is also a key route for parents walking their children to the local primary schools.

• Increase in noise nuisance caused by potential early morning & late night deliveries and 24 hour refrigeration operation of the plant.

• New supermarkets reduce footfall at local shops and this new store will divert trade from existing shops in Saltaire at a time when many are already struggling in the wake of the economic downturn. Bradford Council has stated it will “as far as it is possible” encourage the growth of independent specialty shops in places like Saltaire. This proposal undermines this aim and goes against the existing distinctive character of this area which has been recognised for small local shops by visitors, by residents and businesses who have chosen to stay here.

• It is not possible to say how many existing jobs will be lost from current businesses that would be detrimentally affected by a new supermarket and therefore the suggestion it would provide new jobs cannot be accurately measured.

• The relative ugliness of previous development on the site is not grounds for claiming the need for this new development.

Hundreds of objections are needed before 14th October 2015
